Biography
Sava Božinović (b. 1997, Knjaževac, Serbia) is a classical guitarist with a broad musical background shaped by both his early success in Serbia and further artistic development across Europe, primarily in Sweden. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician, and his work has been recognized through numerous awards and scholarships.
In 2021, Sava was awarded the Lund University Global Scholarship, a highly selective scholarship granted to only one student every two years, enabling him to pursue a second master’s degree in guitar performance at the Academy of Music in Malmö (Musikhögskolan i Malmö), Sweden. He studied under world-renowned professors Göran Söllscher and David Hansson, graduating with the highest distinctions. During his time in Sweden, Sava actively engaged in the local guitar scene, earning recognition through competitions, scholarships, and collaborations with contemporary composers. He was the unanimous first prize winner of the Jörgen Rörby Prize at the “Guitar and Lute Festival” in Ingesund and a recipient of the prestigious KMA National Scholarship (Kungl. Musikaliska Akademien) in Stockholm, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He also received funding and recognition from the Beslut Ebba och Birgit Janssons fond and the Inga och Georg Kopelius Foundation for his artistic contributions.
Sava actively collaborated with contemporary composers during this period, premiering several new works including “Silverfallet” by Melina Ramberg and “Impromptu” by Elias von Proschek for solo guitar. He also gave the world premiere of “¿Duo?”, a piece for guitar and electronics by Swedish composer and guitarist Alvi Joensen. In 2022, he was selected as a finalist at the “Young Talents Competition” at the Uppsala International Guitar Festival, one of the most prominent events for classical guitar in the region.
Before moving to Sweden, Sava built a solid foundation in Serbia, where he completed his master’s studies at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in the class of Prof. Srđan Tošić, graduating with a GPA of 9.70. He was a recipient of multiple scholarships from the Serbian Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the “Dositeja” Fund for Young Talents.
In 2019, he participated in the Erasmus+ exchange programme, which gave him the opportunity to study at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo in Spain, in the class of Prof. Margarita Escarpa.
He began his musical education at the music school “Predrag Milošević” under professor Dragan Ilić in Knjaževac and continued at “Josip Slavenski” in Belgrade, studying under Miloš Janjić, and Ognjen Grčak. Throughout his early education, he won over 20 prizes at state and international competitions, including 1st prizes at the Festival of Music and Ballet Schools of Serbia, Vojvodina Guitar Festival, and State Competition of Music Schools in Serbia.
Sava has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Spain, Sweden, and across Serbia, and in venues such as Kolarac Hall, Palladium Malmö, Dunkers Kulturhus in Helsinborg, ArtGet Gallery, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Belgrade Jewish community hall, KS Eđšeg, National Library of Serbia, as well as at the embassies of Australia, Germany, and Canada in Belgrade.
